Ground Force Worldwide

Ground Force Worldwide provides the mining industry with mine support equipment for both surface and underground mining applications. As an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) for Caterpillar Inc., Ground Force focuses on building the finest underground and open pit mine support equipment in the world. The company operates a full sales department that is constantly on the road, building relationships with CAT dealers and mine managers from every corner of the world. Its account managers work closely with engineering staff to develop and engineer a customized solution for each customer.

Since its inception, Ground Force Worldwide has built up a respectable repertoire of over 40 product lines including the world’s largest fuel and lube trucks, water trucks, cable reel trucks and fuel and lube skids. The company has five factories throughout North America, Europe and South America with more on the horizon. As a U.S. based manufacturer, Ground Force is committed to bringing its innovative designs to the global marketplace while staying loyal to the Caterpillar dealers worldwide.

Ground Force takes great pride in delivering world-class customer service and believes in the commitment of a handshake. “We do business the old fashion way,” says Luke Stavros, Vice President of Sales and Product Support for Ground Force Worldwide. “When someone gives us their word, it’s a done deal. We make a promise and we follow through on that promise.”

Employee Management & Training

With over 250 employees, Ground Force is continuously striving for 100 percent safety. The company has adopted a policy referred to as ‘Everyone Home Safe’, which puts the emphasis on employee wellbeing. As part of this initiative the company ensures each member of staff receives extensive training regarding the proper use of equipment for accident prevention.

One of the company’s core values focuses on employee development and as such an apprenticeship scheme has been implemented to give young engineers the opportunity to develop their skills in a real working environment. The company also sees value in this program from a business development point of view, with young recruits bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the business. Ground Force is committed to education within the sector and consequently has been one of the major supporters of a local technical trade high school – KTECH. In 2012, the high school saw more than 250 student graduate with mechanical qualifications.

Business Logistics & Operations

As a complete solutions provider for Caterpillar, Ground Force services the open pit and underground mining industry in over 50 countries. Caterpillar builds production and support equipment for the mining industry and Ground Force builds support equipment to compliment that offering. As Stavros explains, “We supplement CAT’s core product line and fill some of the gaps.”

As part of this relationship Ground Force and Caterpillar share marketing, sales and production support as well as customers. In terms of engineering and manufacturing, Ground Force Worldwide has full in house capability.

“We are one of the few companies in our industry that has full control over sales, marketing, engineering, manufacturing and the product support side of the business,” says Stavros. “We control everything in house.” Stavros is proud of this capability and notes that “a lot of Ground Force’s competitors manufacture some equipment but they subcontract out the engineering and other work,” giving them the edge.

What makes Ground Force rise above the rest is its loyalty to Caterpillar, its ability to listen to its customers, its diverse product line, and its emphasis on building long-term, meaningful relationships with its clients.

Future Projects

There are big things coming from Ground Force Worldwide in the next couple years. The company is already seeking out new opportunities for growth and expanding its business across additional international territories. The company would like to have easily accessible facilities in different areas of the world.

“The next move for us is going to be within Australia,” reveals Stavros. “We’ve already seeded that opportunity and right now we’re in the process of negotiating some final terms and arrangements.”

“From a true capital investment we’ve built a world class state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Post Falls that opened in July 2013,” says Stavros. “It’s 85,000 square-feet and includes new engineering offices and a new parts distribution center. We also recently remodeled our Underground Force factory, which is our third facility in the USA.”

For over 27 years the Company has been successful by adapting to the market as the customers demand. They now have their eyes focused firmly on future development, and has a lot of expansion and new products in the pipeline. Its core values of loyalty, customer relations and quality product has set it in good stead, ensuring its success now and in the future.
