Image Resources Boonanaring Project on track for 2018 comissioning
One of the highest grade mineral sands resources under evaluation worldwide is on track to enter the commissioning stage by the end of this year.
Image Resources NL has announced this week that construction at its Boonanarring Project, an open cut mine and processing facility, remains on track for project commissioning and first production in the fourth quarter of 2018.
Construction at the high-grade, zircon-rich mineral sands project, located in the North Pertj Basin in Western Australia, began in April 2018 and works are described to be “well-advanced” with the exposure of first high grade ore scheduled for the end of September 2018.
“The project is within 2% of total budgeted cost and remains on schedule for wet commissioning and first production in the 4th Quarter 2018, despite wet weather resulting in six days lost construction time in June,” said Image Resources in a statement.

The Boonanaring deposit, alongside the company’s Atlas deposit form the North Perth Basin Mineral Sands project – one of the highest grade mineral sands resources under evaluation worldwide.
Boonanarring and Atlas represent a total Resource of 32.3 million tonnes @ 8.1% heavy minerals and the intention is to mine the deposits at a rate of 3.3Mtpa over a projected 10-year mine life. Annual production from the mine is expected to average 89,000t of ilmenite, 5,400t of leucoxene, 9,000t of rutile and 32,400t of zircon for a combined annual production of these heavy minerals of 135,900t.
