Everything Caterpillar does is tough. The company has developed a hard-hitting reputation for building massive, heavy-duty equipment for the harshest industries. And now, the company is inserting that methodology into its mobile phone business.

The company has begun rolling out its Cat B15 Android smartphone, a rugged and durable cell phone for the construction and mining industry. Specifications for the B15 include a 1GHz dual-core MediaTek CPU, GPS, a front and back camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of expandable storage, and about 16 hours of talk time. For a heavyweight of a phone, it’s quite light, weighing at around six ounces making it lighter than a Samsung Galaxy S5.

Unveiled last year at the ShowStoppers press event at CTIA, the toughened, IP67 certified device is built to withstand any environment under any condition. To prove just how tough their new CAT B15 smartphone was, the company placed 600 of them on the ground and had their 4.6 ton CAT 277D multi-terrain loader truck run them over. Watch as the phone takes a hellacious beating while remaining fully functional and intact. Case in point, Caterpillar knows a thing or two about long-lasting equipment, and now, smartphones.
