Gold production has exploded in Mexico since the exploration boom at the Guerrero Gold Belt (GGB). Between 2008 and 2011, gold production increased by 55 percent, from 41.4 tonnes per year to 64.2 tonnes per year and by 2014, it is estimated that Mexico will be producing around 75 tonnes per year. Mexico is home to several gold deposits along the 55km mineral belt, including Goldcorp’s Los Filos Mine; Torex Gold’s Morelos deposit; Newstrike Capital’s Ana Paula Project; and Esperanza Resources’ Cerro Jumil deposit. Current gold resources in Mexico are estimated to exceed 15 million ounces.
